2008-10-12 Thank you!
After an intensive, focused and hopeful campaign with many sacrifices, it is difficult to deal with the disappointment of our poor result. Most of all we want to express our gratitude to everyone that has supported our effort, which has been just as demanding as if medals would have been won and the support just as important. Thank you!

2008-05-16 中国
Our team has decided to try and do something for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Putting money on the China Charity Federation, Account no: 00914908091014. Bank: Headquater of China Bank (-no 1. Fuxingmennei Avenue, Beijing), Swift: BKCHCNBJ, is a small and symbolic attempt to do something. We encourage everyone to add a straw to the hay stack.
2008-05-15 Qingdao
Last day of racing, only one race today. The conditions were lumpy seas and a strong current in the same direction as the wind. After a failed attempt to make another port start we had to cross behind all the other boats. Again we went left with most others going right and the left hand side paid again! We rounded the windward mark in second and after several close encounters with GBR in the lead we ended up second at this last race, worst start best finish! Overall results can be found on the official web site. Congratulations GBR!
2008-05-14 Qingdao
In the first race of today we managed to pull through a port start in front of all the other Skuds, and held on to our lead until the gennaker was cought in the water, half way around the course, and five boats passed us. In the next race we went far left in search for a left hand shift and more wind wich finally came and we got a huge lead at the top mark. A lead that we managed to hold until the last downwind leg when we failed to cover some boats and were quickly passed while stuck, grumping, on the wrong side of the course. We ended up fourth in the race but were quite happy anyway to have had two really good first halves of todays races. Our learning curve is pointing in the right direction! |

2008-05-13 Qingdao
Today news about the big earthquake in Sichuan province reached us and the numbers of victims are constantly growing. It feels strange to be enjoying the extreme hospitality of the Chinese people and living in luxuru here in the sheltered Olympic village, while China is struck by such a catastrophy.
2008-05-12 Qingdao
The winds were strong this morning, gusting up to 12 m/s. We had a great run on the way out, planing with the gennaker. But in the middle of a gybe, Birgittas seat suddenly broke with her ending up on the leeward side, unable to work the tilting function. We had to go back to shore without even starting todays racing. Our super-fixer, coach Gunnar, found a local welder who helped to fix the seat immediately!
2008-05-11 Qingdao
First day of racing. Good wind from southeast with a noticable current from northwest. We are trying to find our routines from Miami, we have not been able to train much since Florida, due to the cold weather in Sweden. Our result was sixth in the first race, which the Chinese team won, and fourth in the second race, which USA won.
2008-05-10 Qingdao
Sun, our team guide, makes our life in the Olympic village go smooth. Out on the water again! Here on the east coast of China, 600 kilometres south-east of Being, the sailing conditions are quite different from the ones we are used to in Sweden. The currents are strong and the waves are significant and irregular.
Birgittas new motorised seat makes a big difference and gives her much better support than the old one. |

We are the first ones to use the new hotel in the Olympic village. A fiive star luxury hotel that makes us feel quite spoiled.
2008-05-07 Qingdao
The Qingdao International Regatta is being held at the Paralympic/Olympic site in Qingdao. We have arrived safely and so has the boat we are going to use here. The Australians brought "007", which is the manufacturer boat, for us since we brought our second boat to Miami that they used there. |

|
After 3 sunny weeks in Miami we feel confident that we can get our performance up to competetive level in time for the
2008 Paralympics in Beijing/Qingdao in September!

2008-02-04 Making Progress
Another perfect day on Biscane Bay. Our training is already showing lots of improvement and we are constantly getting boat handling manouvers to work better. Birgitta has left the introduction level and is now starting to dig into the world of competitive racing, in all aspects. The gennaker keeps Birgitta busy.

2008-02-03 AUS-SWE
One more week of training to go. The Australian team is still here for two more days, most of the others have left after the price ceremoni last night. |
 |
2008-02-02 Moving into second gear
The overall result at the Miami OCR, our first regatta together, was not great but our learning curve is steep and pointing in the right direction. 9th in the first race and 2nd in the final race! |

2008-01-31 Biscayne Bay - meaningful space
The weather forecast is nice as usual. No friction with Incredble stuff! |
2008-01-30 Happy birthday, down and out?
Gustaf has another year behind him and another age to remember. In bed and sick but not out.
No racing for Olivia I today. Go Olivia II! |
2008-01-29 Cool swimmings
Marie cleans the bottom of the boat when waiting for wind. |
2008-01-26 Ready for first gear
Today Biscane Bay was at its best. Our Scud is now well equipped with a new seat for Birgitta and a new steering for Gustaf. His automatic, two-geared steering system works excellent. Through a clever system, it has a 2:1 purchase when going straight, and it automatically switches over to 1:1 when turning.
Birgittas seat has a manual tilting function in order to minimize the amount of electric gadgets on board. It was built last week by our great friend and technical magician Roger Wilson in Sarasota.
Unfortunately our second boat Olivia II, which will be sailed by our Australian mates Dan Fitzgibbon/Rachael Cox here in Miami, has to undertake a major last minute repair since the leaded keel bulb was found to have started to delaminate and corrode, despite beingbrand new. We hope that Jake will get some sleep tonight though.

2008-01-24 2008 Miami OCR
On Sunday the Miami Olympic Class Regatta starts. A flying start for our new team and Birgittas first international regatta as well as her first time in a SKUD.
2008-01-20 Florida
We are "regrouping" in Florida. Analyzing our new situation, trying to figure out why our boat is leaking and making a seat for Birgitta.
2008-01-16 Teamchange
Due to personal differences Annika decided to leave the campaign and Birgitta Jacobsson Nilén, who had to leave the team 2006 due to medical reasons, is now recovered and will pick up where she left, from the begining.
Thank you Annika for your effort resulting in a European Championship Gold in 2006 and World Championship Bronze in 2007!
Birgitta, who is a journalist from Stockholm with two children, has sailed 2.4 since 1998 when she had a spinal cord injury. |
2007-11-10 Pre-selected!
The Swedish Paralympic Committee included us in the first, exclusive, group of Swedish athletes to be selected for the 2008 Paralympic Games in China. |

2007-09-15 Bronze Medal!
After today's
racing in strong winds we were tied for
second with two US boats and finished
between them after deciding the overall
standings by each boat's number of 1st
place finishes. |

2007-09-13
Our reslut
today was 3-4-4, consistent but we still
fell to fourth overall, since our toughest
competition did even better. Tomorrow
is the last day of racing.

2007-09-12
After
six races our serie is : 2-8-1-10-3-1.
Overall we're in third at the moment. |

2007-09-10
Today's racing was cancelled because of lack of wind. We waited for three hours on the water. Hopefully tomorrow will bring more wind.

2007-09-08
After being stuck in customs for a week our boat is finally ready for sailing. There will be 16 boats on the line when the first SKUD 18 World Championship regatta starts on Monday. |

Today
it was decided that SWE 13 will be named
"Olivia" after the Stockholm
based Personal Assistance company who
supports our effort. |
2007-08-17
After extensive testing we finally found
the perfect actuator to control Gustaf's
tilting seat. The actuator is manufactured
by Danaher
Motion and is part of their top line
actuators "Thomson's
Electrak Pro® Series". Danaher
Motion has decided to support us and will
supply us with the best actuators on the
market.
