I started sailing 2.4 mR in 1989. The boat showed the full potential of sailing which motivated me to work hard on improving my sailing skills. The goal was to reach the top of the class regardless of my disability. Three years later I started winning medals at international championships and 1995 I won the 2.4 mR World Championship. Although I haven’t been active in the class for the last 10 years I still have my boat and I will always feel like I am a 2.4-sailor.
After winning the Worlds I developed a self-tacking/gybing jib boom to compensate for my increasing coordination problems. It was ready a bit too late for my own 2.4-racing but I am still convinced that the final carbon version will become everyone’s choice as soon as someone starts to win regattas with it. |
